Clover has aired its second episode of the second season of the Little Big Cook Off (#CloverLBCO), where we met three new teams, El Shaddai, Flour Power, and Shakers & Bakers, who each brought their a-game in both the Family Recipe challenge, as well as the Creative Baking challenge, where each team got to show their creative side in making an all-time favourite: Crumpets.

After all of the excitement, Teams Flour Power and Shakers & Bakers were victorious. Team El Shaddai will have to spice things up to stay in the competition when they try again in the Wild Card episode on 26 July.

Mmanoko (38) and Blessing Princess (13) Semenya are Team El Shaddai, mother-and-daughter contenders from Limpopo. While Blessing Princess brings a youthful energy into the team, this Little Cook took charge in the Way Better™ kitchen telling her mom what to do. Mmanoko’s passion for cooking was inspired by her mother, and she’s now inspiring a passion for cooking in Blessing Princess. The two particularly enjoy creating something out of nothing, using ingredients available in the kitchen.

Team Flour Power, Faldela Parker (60) and Zhara Esau (14), grandmother and granddaughter from Mitchells Plain, Western Cape, say they share a level of trust that’s so important when cooking together. The pair were notably quiet in the kitchen, with #CloverLBCO judge Chef Coco Reinarhz commenting, “Their teamwork is really good. They don’t say much to each other while they are working but they both know exactly what they are doing.” Zhara adds, “My gran and I make a great team because we cook from the heart.”

Rekha (46) and Kiara (15) Nirghin are the mother-and-daughter team Shakers & Bakers, from Alberton, Johannesburg. Both Rekha and Kiara love coming up with new, quirky recipes, and watching cooking shows together. “Kiara is incredibly talented; she cooks like a pro,” says Rekha. This talented team complement each other in the kitchen: Rekha is a confident, outgoing cook who loves to experiment with strong, punchy flavours, and follow her traditional Indian culture, while Kiara is more playful and enjoys experimenting with new tastes from around the world – Kiara would not know how to cook so well if it weren’t for her mother, and if it weren’t for her daughter Rekha would never have experimented with ostrich meat or squid.

El Shaddai’s family recipe was Emily’s Layered Custard Biscuit Tart with a Fruity Smoothie and Team Flour Power made their delicious and perfectly-crispy Cheese and Corn Spring Rolls. Team Shakers & Bakers’ family recipe was Thai Sticky Chicken Wings. This is a special recipe for the Nirghin family, as it was Kiara’s grandfather’s favourite dish.
